Welcome to Moalboal ... the diving paradise of cebu

     

               

The Municipality of Moalboal is a 4th class municipality lies in Southwest coast of the Province of Cebu. Moalboal has been spotted, identified and is a famed tourist destination for both local and foreign nationals. It has a laudable diving capital of the world. Moalboal is approximately eighty-nine (89) road kilometers from Cebu City. It is bounded on the North by the Municipality of Alcantara, the Municipality of Badian in the South, west by Tañon Strait and the Municipality of Argao in the East. It is approximately 132 degrees 22’ and 123 degrees and 27’ on the west latitude 9 degrees 48’ on the north latitude. It can be reached by bus in 2 ½ hours more or less from Cebu City. Anyone can enjoy the warm, pristine waters, fine white sand and most of all the underwater jewel and gem, the pride of Moalboal. It is popularly known as the "Diving Paradise of Cebu" due to its white sandy beaches, beautiful corals and different underwater creatures especially around Pescador Island.  Moalboal is composed of 15 barangays.  It has a total land area of 7,290.96 has. and a population of 27,398 based on 2005 survey.  Moalboal celebrates its town fiesta every May 16 in honor of Patron Saint, San Juan Nepomuceno and on every 15th of May, you can see and watch the "KAGASANGAN FESTIVAL".  It is a presentation of street dancing and ritual showdown participated in by the different barangays.

  Located at the west coast of Cebu, nestles a humble little town of Moalboal, and three kilometers from the town center, is the coastal village of Panagsama beach, homing to a small community of unexploited locals and friendly foreign divers. Moalboal is known for diving yet accomodation and food is affordable.

  

  Moalboal’s exciting dive sites made it an extraordinary diving destination in the Visayas. Apart from its unique location  and its lovely people, visiting divers usually get magnetized by the  staggering life form decking out the inclined wall right by the shore of Panagsama beach. The dive starts at the  beach, heading straight down to a recepting beauty of stunning hard and soft corals, anemones and sponges hosting thousands of inhabiting tropical   fishes.

 

Another point of interest is Pescador Island Marine park. It is a shallow reef that shelters lively dancinggorgonians, fan corals and sharks such as whitetip and hammerheads. These are stunning sights that famed Moalboal to divers  from around the world. As a little town by the west coast of Cebu Island, Moalboall      can be easily reached by either renting a bike or taking a bus or jeepney from the center of Cebu.
